Sheffield Theatres

Sheffield Theatres is the largest theatre complex outside of London, housing three diverse theatres.

It produces around 13 large shows a year, has over 70 visiting companies, hosts more than 800 performances and plays home to the Snooker World Championships at the Crucible. It feeds the cultural life of the region, creating a vibrant place where people want to come and visit, stay and work.

The region has good transport links but with HS2 East this will clearly improve. Dan Bates from Sheffield Theatres believes it will open up new opportunities for Sheffield Theatres and the city. The ambition is to increase audiences: it currently has an audience base of 350,000 but needs to attract more people from a wider area. With reduced journey times to London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds, HS2 East will remove the perception that Sheffield is a long way away and attract more people to come and visit and work. The improved connectivity will also hopefully lead to a reduction in the number of cars on the road, which can’t be a bad thing says Dan.

Sheffield Theatres Case Study

Good transport links and connectivity are essential for Sheffield Theatres. It has a large audience, a large staff and a complex business. Being able to move people around, quickly and easily, is vital.
